Select Cloud Storage Provider

On the first start of BoxProtect you can tell the system which cloud storage provider you want to use, i.e., to which cloud storage provider you want to add privacy and protection. Currently, only Dropbox is supported.

Link BoxProtect to Dropbox

After you’ve chosen a cloud storage provider you have to link BoxProtect to it by entering your credentials.

Select/Create Protected Folder

When BoxProtect is linked to a cloud storage provider you can either select an already existing protected folder or create a new one.

Create new Protected Folder

For creating a new protected folder you need to enter the folder’s name and password. With ‘Encrypt filename’ you can configure whether you want to encrypt a file’s name and content or only the content. By default, filenames are encrypted, providing a higher level of security. However, encrypted filenames make it harder to resolve version conflicts. Finally the AES key length can be set (128, 192, or 256); higher values result in better security and higher computational overhead. The default keylength is 256.

Unlock Protected Folder

After selecting a protected folder you have to unlock it in order to see its contents by entering the folder’s password.

File Explorer

Within an unlocked folder you can browse all files and subfolders, download & open files.

Preferences

In the “Memory” section you configure whether passwords are to be stored locally on the phone (password need to be input only once) or not at all, whether you want to auto-connect to the most recently used protected folder, and whether you want to remember the folder of the latest upload. The “Active protected folder” section allows you to switch to another folder – either an existing one or a new one. “Reset settings” restores BoxProtect to factory settings.

Help & Info

The help area allows you to read help documents, to recommend BoxProtect to friends, and to send feedback to us.

Upload files
Storing a file in BoxProtect is easy if you are using an app providing the “Open in …” dialog. With Apple Mail®, for instance, you can store attachments in this way; just click “Open in …”, choose BoxProtect, and select a path in your protected folder.
Uploads

The uploads section shows ongoing uploads, i.e., files that are being encrypted and stored to the cloud service provider. Additionally, there is an upload history where you can see what you’ve uploaded, recently.

Upload details
If you need further detail about a file you’ve uploaded to the cloud storage provider, you can click on a file in the history, which gives you the upload detail view.
